New symptoms

I've suffered migraines for 30+ years but they've always been manageable with otc meds until recently when they became more severe and more frequent leaving me shaking, numb in arms, legs & face, with or without the constant pain in the head. The doctor put me on Topamax and Imitrex and for 3 months I had only an occasional, very slight migraine until this week. I'm on day 5 of a migraine where the pain comes and goes and even after taking the Imitrex yesterday (which I hate taking as I'm an Advil girl), I couldn't walk. I had no strength in my legs to do anything but crawl and could barely do that. Does anyone else have this symptom with migraines?

  1. Layorm — I just now seeing this post. I can sympathize with how frustrating these symptoms can be, let alone the impact they have on your ability to function. Since I’ve not been able to find a treatment that stops these symptoms I simply have learned to adapt. The loss of hand, arm, leg function and the ability to speak without slurring usually only happens when I spend 4+days at a 7 or higher pain level and we’ve determined that it’s not a stroke or TIA. Wish I could offer more hope. Some days it simply sucks to be a Medical Princess/Prince.

    1. I have had these symptoms on and off for the last 2 or 3 days with my migraine and it's scary. I keep feeling woozy, dizzy, heavy headed shaky and my legs and arms feel so weak and have muscle pain too. I'm panicking about it thinking it's something more serious. I've had a migraine on and off now for almost 2 weeks now and so fed up feeling so ill.

      1. I am so sorry to hear how badly it has been for you these past few days. If these are new or worsening symptoms it is always a good idea to discuss what you are experiencing with your doctor to rule out anything more serious. Sending gentle hugs your way & sure hope you begin to experience some relief. -Joanna (Migraine.com Team)
