Medications & Prescription Treatment

New to daily med and this site

  • By DeAnn

    Hi. Recently my migraines have become chronic and unbearable so I made my first trip to a neurologist. A friend told me about this site. What a wealth of information!
    My neurologist has started me on verapamil. Anyone have experience/success with this med?

    Hi DeAnn,

    Welcome to the discussion forum – we’re so glad you are here! Thank you so much for your question.

    Verapamil didn’t work for me, but that doesn’t mean it won’t for you. We are all so different – it may be “the” drug to work. Something to keep in mind is that it can take up to 90 days at the correct dose before we see a reduction in our migraine frequency and severity when we start new medications. Also during this time potential side effects may lessen.

    If you’ve not seen this article, ‘The Seven Essentials of Migraine Management’ I would encourage you to read it – it has a wealth of information in it;

    Will you keep us posted on your progress?
