Usually I get hormonal migraines max of 2 a month just before or during my period. When I had access to prescription meds I would take imetrex otherwise I would suffer through. None lasted more than 24 hours.
Oct of 2017 that changed when I started the longest migraine of my life. I didn't believe it was a migraine as if never had one that long. I have chronic headaches (various types)in addition to my migraines. It took 3 weeks of worsening symptoms before I went in to the Dr. Dr put me on amitriptyline and prescribed maxelt (? I think that's what it's called?). I also received my first shot of tortatol. 3 weeks later the migraine finally broke.
Over the next 6 months I went through a period of increasing migraines and increasing amitriptyline. My heart rate also rose during this time until my resting heart rate was 150 bpm. I began to see a cardiologist who (after tests) prescribed metoprolol. We finally connected the high heart rate with the amitriptyline and with the metoprolol as a migraine preventative began weaning me off the amitriptyline. Migraines were once again manageable and linked to my monthly visitor.
Until now.
I am having another migraine that won't stop. I am "only" on day 9 but this one is 1000x worse than the one in 2017. I had a tortol shot Thursday and this time I had side effects i didn't like. (Although the pain cessation was worth it). I am using my maxalt sparingly to keep from rebound headaches. Monday I saw my Dr and started topamax. But, of course that won't stop my migraine anytime soon. 🙁
