Ocular??

61 yr old very healthy female
A year or 2 ago, I started having the wavy lines at the edge of my eyes. Sometimes I would go months and be fine..3 months ago, I had them weekly..I saw my opthamologidt who suggested stress ( high stress 60 hour week job) or my prescription..which was way off. I hadn't had one until last week when I had some white flashes at the side of my vision.
Yesterday, I had the zig zag aura followed by a mild headache. Today I had 2... tonights was followed by a headache of a couple of hours..then I am drained.
My mother is 82 and has same but rarely gets a headache. Any insight??

  1. Hi bk1010,

Thank you for reaching out and being part of our discussion forum - we're glad you're here!

First let me say how disappointed I am in the doctor you saw. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't say the same thing to a man. Study after study indicate doctors do not treat our pain the same as men's pain, and boy am I tired of it!

Anyway, stress does NOT cause disease, but can make it worse. I know when my emotional stress is high, I have increased pain. Here is an article that may help; https://migraine.com/blog/stress-trigger/.

As much as I wish I could tell you what's going on, I can't. Only a qualified doctor (who understands migraine) can do that after he gives you a complete exam, goes over your symptoms and discusses your medical history. Getting an accurate diagnosis will help us learn all we can about our disease and get the correct treatment.

'Ocular' migraine is a term that is used to describe the visual symptoms of a migraine attack. The correct term is migraine with aura. You can read more about that here; https://migraine.com/migraine-types/migraine-typical-aura/.

I hope this helps, please let me know.
    Nancy
