Ongoing One Sided Headache

About 5 months ago I woke up with a headache on the left side of my head, almost behind my eye but more to the outer side of my head. It was a shooting pain that went towards the back of my head, being worse when I coughed or bent over. 2 weeks later the pain turned into a dull ache around my left temple/above the ear with more of the pain being above my ear. It feels tender to touch that spot and the area around it now, and I also get sharp pains in the dull spot multiple times a day. The pain is constant and does not get better at any point throughout the day.
I get sinus symtoms too such as pain in left eye, between the eye and nose on the left side, and the eye feels tight/swollen but looks fine.
I also see flashes of light and stringy goop sometimes which clouds my vision. Now the pain I felt at first is back, along with the dull pain.

Ive seen the doctor and had a CT scan which came back normal, and am waiting to see him again for advice on what to do next but I figured I'd come here and get some opinions.

Thanks

  1. Hi Murdox,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story with us - we're glad you've found Migraine.com!!

If this is migraine, there is no image study or blood test to diagnose it. Migraine disease is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning an accurate diagnosis is confirmed once a qualified doctor give you a complete exam, goes over your symptoms and discusses your medical history.

I'm not suggesting you have this, but you may want to discuss temporal arteritis. You can read more about that here; https://migraine.com/headache-types/temporal-arteritis-headaches/.

Please let us know how you make out,
    Nancy

    1. Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if it was migraine related or not. Oddly, it was never brought up with my doctor and never thought to ask but now it's good to know that it probably isn't migraine related.

As for Temporal Arteritis, it's a possibility but since I'm only 24, it's not very likely. I'll bring it up with my doctor though and get his opinion on that. Thanks for the info!
