Petadolex75

I had my first appt today w/my new neurologist (mine retired due to Obamacare) and he has started me on Petadolex 75 mg twice daily. I have read many, many reviews and am so excited to start this. Right now I am in the middle of a migraine that has been going on for over 3 weeks so I am starting with this and taking Depakote ER for a few days in addition to my Seroqel and Celexa. I didn't know if anyone else had taken this. It is a purified version of Butterbur.

  1. Hi Rebeccapa,

There is lots of evidence that butterbur is effective for migraine. However, when not purified properly it can be very toxic. Petadolex was being manufactured correctly in Eurpoe where it was recommended we purchased it. But the manufacturing process has changed and migraine specialists are no longer suggesting we use it.

Don't panic, there are other alternatives. Here is information on this topic from migraine/headache disorder expert Dr. Mauskop; https://migraine.com/blog/boswellia-a-potential-herbal-remedy/. In addition Magnesium, riboflavin, Coenzyme Q10, and other have shown to be helpful. Let me share a link with you on other natural remedies; https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/natural-remedies/. But before you start other natural supplements make sure you discuss it with your doctor. This is important information on natural supplements everyone who takes them should read; https://migraine.com/blog/safety-of-dietary-supplements-herbs-for-migraine-prevention/.

    1. I already take the Magnesium and B2, I ran out of Co Q10 and it is so expensive I hadn't gotten it again. My headaches seem to be better but at the same time I started the Petadolx and Depakote ER (now daily) so I don't know which it is.

      1. The whole problem with Petadolex is a bureaucratic problem. Germany has a whole load of testing required on herbs. The company changed processesing without going through the whole system from step one. They claim that the product is the same (and it can be proven to be the same through chemical analysis.) The government doesn't care. It wants its red tape satisfied.

In the mean time, I feel very safe taking Petadolex. WAY safer than I feel about the western meds I take, which have MUCH greater potential for liver damage than butterbur in its unaltered state.
