Pizotifen

  • By Nancy Harris Bonk Moderator

    Hi hy9dyq,

I’ve never taken pizotifen, brand name Sandomigran, as it’s not available in the United States. Maybe others will be along shortly from the UK and share their experiences with you.

    Hi hy9dyq,

I have not tried pizotifen myself. However, I am based in the UK and it is used for Migraine prevention here, especially for children.

Pizotifen is an antihistamine and a serotonin-receptor blocker, structurally related to the tricyclic antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline, nortriptyline). Possible side effects include increased appetite, weight gain and drowsiness, but not everyone will experience side effects.

For more information, I hope the following links are helpful. Your doctors and pharmacist should be able to give you more detailed information specific to your situation.
