Post-Op and an increase in Migraines

Has anyone ever heard of this before?

I just came from my neurologist and she wants me to take an extra week off because I will most likely have an increase in migraines due to the recovery period after my surgery (partial hysterectomy).

Thanks in advance!

  1. Yes, it is not uncommon for patients to experience an increase in migraines during the recovery period after surgery. The stress, hormonal changes, and overall healing process can contribute to this. It's important to follow your neurologist's advice and take the necessary time off for proper recovery.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Have you experienced this after surgery? Pain free wished heading your way, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Leader/Moderator Migraine.com Team

  2. Yes. I had this happen to me. As a matter of fact, the week after my myomectomy, I had such a bad migraine headache, that I had a seizure-like attack. I have also had an increase in the frequency of attacks since. I had to be hospitalized for 7days for observation a couple months ago.

    1. Thank you for sharing what is working for you. You are so right that the basics of diet and sleep should not be overlooked in terms of importance and impact when it comes to managing and preventing migraine. Thank you for pointing that out. Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.

    2. It's great to hear that you have found some strategies that are helping you manage your migraines. Both diet and sleep can play a significant role in migraine management. There are so many tips that can assist you in this task, but a few to mention are maintaining a balanced diet as well as keep a food diary to assist in seeing patterns that may be worsening your migraines. Also establishing a regular sleep schedule may regulate your body's internal clock promoting better sleep quality and reduce the risk of migraine attacks. Other tips are to create a soothing bedtime routine and maintain a very sleep-friendly environment to make it easier to fall and stay asleep. Hoping you get the chance to evaluate your eating and sleep patterns to give you a better quality of life. Warmly ~ Rebecca (community moderator)
