Post Sumatriptan-Migraine High/Eurphoria

I get daily complex migraines. Most likely due to Temporal Lobe Epilepsy/Focal Seizures I have. I'm currently working on getting my medication for that to a therapeutic level.

However, I will still use sumatriptan from time to time. It takes about 6 hours to go into effect. The first 3 are painful and worse than if not taking the pill at all. After that 6 hours period I can finally speak fluently, quickly, and may even have better cognitive ability than I normally do. I'm a bit twitchy though and notice some slight throbbing head pains. It's kind of like I'm a huge adrenaline rush

Not sure if its the migraine leaving, the medication, or both? Anyone else get similar symptoms? I can't find good results on Google.

  1. Hi sumosuma,

Thank you for sharing that with us. There is not easy answer to this, and hopefully others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to discuss using another delivery system of sumatriptan with your doctor. I'm unable to take the pill form of triptans (yes, I've tried them all!) without feeling my throat tighten and generally worse. I can however, use the nasal spray which seem to work faster and is more effective. There is also the injectable form.

    I hope this helps!
    Nancy

    1. Of course! Currently I'm on the anti-seizure medication for a few more months before I am able to revisit how exactly the migraines are being caused. So I wont be able to ask my doctor until then as the situation might change once I get a therapeutic level.

I should clarify though that I am taking the 25 mg tablet, not any other type. They have always been helpful, especially quick when I have a migraine headache and not a complex migraine. It's not the delivery system that I have a problem with or that I am curious about, just the euphoria.
