Potassium

Anyone have experience with potassium supplements as a preventative or treatment?

I take magnesium and find it helpful with some migraines.

I found through traking my diet and blood work, I am low on potassium.

I thought of getting supplements, but saw potassium used to treat high blood pressure. As I have low blood pressure, I am wondering how big an impact potassium may have.

And please refrain from mentioning bananas. It is a fruit I simply will not eat. Bleech. Sorry, banana lovers.

I do notice some of my migraines improve if I eat other potassium rich foods. Sweet potato, potato, yogurt, spinach, etc. But there is only so much potato one can eat and be a healthy weight. And during an attack, I can rarely eat anything.

Thanks

  1. Hi glassmind! Thank you for reaching out! As you may know, we cannot offer specific medical advice over the internet (for your safety!), but I thought this article about potassium and migraine might be of interest to you: https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/natural-remedies/potassium-for-migraine-headaches/ As you consider beginning a potassium supplement, I would encourage you to first reach out to your doctor, just to be sure there are no conflicting medications or concerns s/he is aware of for you. Please let us know what you decide and how you feel you respond. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (Migraine.com team)
