Psychiatric evaluation

...so I pulled my prophylactic in July for conception reasons. At the time I was worried that my migraines would revert to a pre-diagnosis frequency, but my neurologist was of the attitude 'well cross that bridge when we come to it. 2 months later and im basically having a 2-3 week long migraine. Given the high frequency I've been to the A+E dept 5/6 times in 2 weeks. Not ideal. Not my choice.

I received a call today from my GP, asking to come in for an app. I go and at first he didn't know why I'd been called in (!), Then he said he wanted to discuss the fact the hospital had booked a psychiatrist app for 'pseudo-seizures'. At this point I don't know if.i should be offended or just roll with it. My migraines usually involve an intense head pain, where if it worsens I'll black out and my or may not have a seizure. These are non-epileptic in nature and self-limiting - i've never said otherwise!!

I was wondering anyone else been to a psychiatrist for migraine (!)?

  1. Hi Still Smiling,

Thank you for your question. There are a number of headache/migraine centers that require a psychological evaluation as part of their treatment plan. If it were me I'd want an accurate diagnosis so I could get the correct treatment.

Having said that, I'm a firm believer in (occasional) counseling for those of us with chronic illness.

Hopefully others will be along to share their experiences with you.

    1. Maybe call before your appointment and ask why you were called in. You don't need to go, you can ask for a second opinion. Let your doctor know that the stress of this situation could bring on a migraine attack.

      Best I have.

      Take Care
