Rolaids with Magnesium?

Anyone had any luck with this as a preventative? I started taking Rolaids for acid reflux and noticed the container says it has magnesium as well. I had tried a magnesium supplement in the past but it caused stomach issues and didn't seem to impact migraines. I've been taking the Rolaids daily for almost 2 weeks now and so far I have noticed a significant reduction in migraine attempts. I've been dealing with migraines my whole life and feel like I may have stumbled onto something significant, but curious if Anyone else ever had any success using this as a preventative, before I start getting too excited. 😀

  1. Hi goshox78,

Thank you for sharing that with us and welcome to the discussion forum!

I'm happy to hear you are seeing a reduction in your migraine frequency, that's great news. To be honest, I have not heard of this before, but anything is possible with migraine. Is there any chance you have eliminated any foods that make the acid reflux worse? Another thought regarding the decrease in migraine frequency is, have you recently eliminated certain foods that may be migraine triggers for you? Reducing trigger foods for both migraine and reflux may be beneficial.

I also take magnesium and did have a bit of stomach distress at the beginning, but that seems to have calmed down now.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for continued success and keep us posted on your progress.

    1. Any updates on this? My daughter was chronic and then episodic, but has slid towards chronic again with illness. She has developed bad pain behind her sternum this past week. It had been sporadic and is now ongoing. As a last ditch attempt before heading to emerge today, we used Rolaids even though the pain was a dull one, not one that resembled heartburn. It worked some on that pain and reduced her head pain better than her Tylenol 2 shwe took today. Is this a fluke? She has not been able to take any magnesium supplement by mouth but is okay with Epsom salt baths.

      1. Hi hkoak2,

I haven't heard any updates about TUMS. I am sorry to hear about your daughter becoming chronic again, that must be very frustrating.

Your daughter may want to think about keeping a detailed migraine diary. This is helpful in identifying any patterns our migraine attacks have, and our triggers. She can read more about keeping one here; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics/.

Keep us posted on how she is doing,
        Nancy
