Running out of Options... Drug allergies

So I've had an anaphylactic reaction to naratriptan, confirmed in hospital. Also ASA, Nsaids, and opiates.
I was diagnosed with complicated migraine (I know outdated..) about 4 years old. The worst ones present with aphasia and paralysis in the aura phase and the aphasia can continue through to the pain phase. I get really minimal visual auras. Most of the time I can avoid the pain (and most of the other aura stuff) phase if I take paracetamol (Tylenol for the North Americans) with an energy drink. If the pain starts they're most likely to be intractable and without going to the hospital it just doesn't stop for up to a week.
I've tried all kinds of alternative therapies except botox (I have an appointment in January). I was actually excited about the naratriptan as the first pill worked for about 12 hours 😀 And despite the allergic reaction it clears up my vision issues (OK maybe I have more visual aura than I think...). Oops that was long...
So now that I'm migraine free 😀 for now, any ideas for abortive drugs or alternatives? January is a long way away...

  1. Hi Larkspur111,

I'm sorry to hear about the reaction to naratriptan. I wonder if the other triptans would do the same thing? Definitely a question for your doctor.

Other abortive medications include ergot based such as Cafergot, Ercaf, Ergomar and DHE - 45 and Migranal. Here is an article on other abortives that may be useful; https://migraine.com/blog/non-prescription-abortives/.

    Please keep me updated,
    Nancy
