  1. Hi kmass,

I've not had this procedure, but know patients who have with mixed results. Some get temporary pain relief, while others not so much.

I hope others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

    1. I have tried everything. Botox didn't work. My doctor said I should try Sphenopalatine ganglion blocks. Not sure. I have mostly given up on any other options. Would be interest in hearing from those who have had this procedure.

      1. ,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your thoughts with us. I'm sorry to hear Botox wasn't successful. May I ask how many rounds you had? It can take three sometimes four rounds of injections (every three months) before we see improvement in attack frequency and severity. It is important to have a doctor who is experienced in the Botox protocol for migraine disease.
Try not to lose hope, there are over 100 medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that can be used to help manage migraine disease. Most of us use a combination of them, I know I do.
A sphenopalatine ganglion nerve block may provide weeks to months of temporary migraine relief, but won't prevent migraine attacks. We have information on this type of block in this article I hope you find helpful; https://migraine.com/blog/facial-pain-explained/.
I'm not sure what type of doctor you see, but do wonder if it's time to seek out help from a doctor who is a true expert in treating migraine and headache disease. General neurologists may be fine doctors, but have a hard time being experts in one area because as they treat many other conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and more. A true migraine/headache disease expert treats migraine and headache all day, every day! Let me share this information on how these doctors are different and how to find one; https://migraine.com/blog/really-find-headache-specialist/

I hope this information is beneficial. Will you let me know? Hoping today is a low pain day, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Advocate/Moderator

    2. Only had one set of Botox shots in my neck. My neck muscles knotted up so much that my doc said he didn't think I should try it again. No, it didn't help. I have seen a neurologist who specializes in migraines issues. Didn't have any new ideas and so busy that I can only get an appt every 6 months. Had a pain management doc do the shots who does them all the time. He has performed rhizotomy on my bake before. Known him for years.

      1. Sorry to hear that you cannot get seen more frequently by your neurologist. On another post, I sent you some information on other potential treatment approached. Let us know if any of those look interesting to you. In the meantime, I'll send you this link to a directory for migraine specialists, in case you might be able to find one in your area that might be able to see you more regularly: https://migraine.com/blog/the-mrf-directory-of-headache-and-migraine-specialists
