Switching CGRP based meds?

Last fall I tried Amiovig but found that it worsened the severity of my migraines (much sharper pain) so I stopped taking it. My neurologist wanted to know if I was interested in trying one of the other CGRP based drugs - Emgality or Ajovy.

Has anyone else switched from one CGRP drug to another? Did you experience different results or different side effects?

I’m hesitant because it’s a lot of money and the pain last time was scary, but I also don’t have a lot of options available.

  1. Hi Krystolla-
I also had a worsening of migraines with Amiovig. Yet the next two
anti CGRP drugs work a little differently I’m told. Speak with your
    Headache Specialist and decide
If trying one or both would be in your best interest.

Best of luck. Please let us know
    What you decide.
    Carol.

      1. Hi Krystolla,

That's a great question!! I know a number of people with migraine disease who have switched from Aimovig to Ajovy or Emgality with good results.

Each of these CGRP medications work a bit differently and people who have a hard time Aimovig seem to do better with one of the others.

        I hope that helps!

        1. Hi daltal10,

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I can tell you it may take more than one injection to see any benefits. Many people start seeing benefits in the first two months and even more so after three months.

Give it some time, and I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Wishing you a low pain day,
          Nancy

        2. That all this applies to a silent migraine too?

      2. Hi beachbumgirl,
