Symptoms but infrequent pain

I seem to have many of the listed symptoms of migraine, but don't get the painful headaches regularly. Facial numbness, hives, fatigue, and spots in my eye or having to keep one eye closed just to keep going have been daily and/or weekly occurrences. My PCP is stumped by these symptoms and the three specialists I've seen ended the visits with, "huh, I don't know. " Could this be migraines or something else completely? Just looking for answers so I can get this under control. I haven't been able to figure out any triggers.

  1. Hi codee,

Thank you for reaching out to us - we're glad you're here!

I'm sorry you are having a rough time getting to the bottom of your symptoms. While your symptoms sound like they could be a migraine attack without the headache phase, silent migraine, I can't speculate on exactly what's going on. I can share information on this type of migraine with you that can be shared with your doctor; https://migraine.com/migraine-types/.

Keeping a detailed migraine diary is a good way to identify our triggers and any patterns our attacks may have. When you get a chance, take a look at this information on how to keep a migraine diary; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics/.

You may want to investigate seeing a "true" migraine/headache expert. These doctors are board certified in headache medicine which is different than being certified in neurology. These articles explain more; http://migraine.com/blog/how-are-migraine-specialists-different/ and

Keep us posted on how you are feeling,
    Nancy

    1. Codee,

I, too, don't experience the pounding headache all the time, but I have the sensory aura 90% of the time. The frustrating part is the confusion and lacking the ability to communicate. I can hear myself say the words in my head, but the words can't come out. When I first experienced this, I thought I was having a stroke. Scary stuff. The only way I knew what this was is because I saw a migraine specialist at Mayo. I strongly suggest you do the same if you haven't done so!
