Symptoms of prolonged Sensory Aura?

Hello, I am new to this forum and would like to say hello to everyone. The other day I was researching some of my symptoms and came across this forum. I am 59 and female. Last Wednesday I had an appointment with a neurologist due to pain in my thoracic spine and what appeared to be neuropathy in feet, hands and face. I have had issues with my spine in the past so he ordered an MRI for my spine to check for a pinched nerve but he said my neuropathy symptoms were FND. Functional Nerve Dysfunction due to the fact that I passed my neuro test and my previous bloodwork is fine except for a very high blood sediment rate. My symptoms have been a vibration which started in my feet and progressed over a course of a few days to my thighs, hands, and my face along with daily headaches. When it reached my face, it would cause my lips and tongue to tingle and feel swollen. The left side of my temple was painful and my right cheek numb. The constant vibration felt like I was electrified. All of these symptoms intensified at night. The night after my appointment, I woke up around 2am with my feet, hands and face tingling. When I turned over I noticed a flicker of light in the corners my vision and I thought it was my digital clock changing numbers. When I turned on my back with my eyes opened , I had a visual aura for about ten minutes. I knew it was an aura because I had a scintillating scotoma several years ago and in a panic went to my eye doctor who diagnosed it. Since that night, I am still experiencing the vibrations in my body but they seem to be lessening. I put a call into the neurologist to get his opinion to see if I have been having a migraine all this time. Has anyone here ever experienced this with migraines? I know everyone is different but I would appreciate any feedback if possible. Thank you kindly!

  1. Hi Tmrbas,

Welcome to the Migraine.com discussion forum - we're glad you've found us!!

Have you been diagnosed with migraine? It's not uncommon for our migraine patterns to change over time. When this happens its always a good idea to discuss these changes with the doctor. I can tell you numbness and tingling can be part of a migraine attack, but usually dissipates when the attack is over.

I would continue to follow up with the doctor and sed rate to rule out other conditions. Please keep us posted on how you are doing and hopefully others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

    Nancy
