Has anyone else noticed that you can no longer buy toothpaste off the shelf that doesn’t contain artificial sweeteners? I found some natural stuff on eBay that doesn’t have anything nasty in it, but then it also has the drawback of being completely useless in terms of cleaning power and leaves my teeth feeling really sensitive.
I raised the subject with my dentist who told me that I really need to find something with fluoride in it or my teeth will rot away to stumps. With this in mind I set about looking for some fluoride tablets to supplement my useless new natural toothpaste. Guess what? Fluoride tablets are harder to come by than hen’s teeth and the ones you can find contain, wait for it… sorbitol, a friggin’ toxic artificial sweetener!
Personally I’m not a three year old who can’t use toothpaste or medicine unless it tastes of sugar and spice and all things nice so I’m getting a bit sick of this nonsense.
So, my question is, has anyone managed to find any toothpaste that works and doesn’t contain any of this gunk, but does contain fluoride? Alternatively has anyone found that they’re generally sensitive to artificial sweeteners, yet they can tolerate certain ones? I know I had a nightmare with aspartame years ago and haven’t touched it since. In fact I haven’t touched any artificial sweeteners at all unless it’s by accident. Now I find that if I use toothpaste containing sorbitol or even just sodium saccharine (which is supposed to be pretty harmless I’ve read) it really screws me up for the day.
