Trouble getting generic Midrin

I have been taking the generic form of Midrin for migraine attacks for the last 2 years. It works really well for me, but a couple of months ago my pharmacy informed me they can no longer get this medication. The doctor prescribed a medication that is very similar and contains most of the same ingredients but now the pharmacy can't get that medication either. Is anyone else having this problem? I have tried many triptans and they don't work for me as well as the midrin.

  1. Hi 2mnyheadaches,

Thank you for your question. Midrin has been an issue for a few years now due to new FDA regulations. At one point Midrin was the only thing that worked to abort a migraine attack for me as well. However, I've switched over to triptan nasal sprays (I'm unable to take the pill form of triptans) which work well. I get samples of Onzetra from my doctor as well. You may want to discuss this option with your doctor.

I just got off the phone with my pharmacist and she said she is unable to get the ingredients from her wholesaler as well, and isn't she when or if they will be available again 🙁.

I wish I had better new for you.....

Keep me posted on your next move,
    Nancy

    1. Hi littleshelly,

Thank you for sharing that with us. I too used Midrin for many, many years thinking I was unable to take triptans. I was unable to use the pill form of triptans due to 'triptan sensation' but can use the nasal sprays without issue.
