Type of Riboflavin may matter....

Hello all! So if you have been dealing with the monster for a while you will know that very common supplements recommended are magnesium, CoQ10 and Riboflavin (400mg). And there are other herbs like Butterburr and Feverfew.

Just wanted to walk through some thoughts and experience recently with the Riboflavin. So we did the 400mg of Riboflavin and it didn't really help. then I was reading...

So we know migraine is thought to involve several things vasodialation, cortical spreading depression, low brain glutathione, and some issue with low energy in the mitochondria possibly. Riboflavin and magnesium and CoQ10 are all targeted at mitochondrial support, and magnesium has other benefits also.

Well, regular Riboflavin must be converted to FMN and then some of it is converted further to FAD. Each conversion step uses up some ATP to get there.

So if we are already struggling with enough ATP, you can reduce the demand for ATP by taking R5P Riboflavin (which IS FMN) instead of the standard vitamin.

FMN/FAD is important in the redox of GSSH to glutathione (recycling our glutathione).

Much better experience with R5P at a dose of like 36mg 2x per day than 400mg of Riboflavin. combine with B6 P5P and a B12.

above really good article which talks about how riboflavin and FMN/FAD are important to mitochondrial function.

    1. Hi Maddy,

Thank you for sharing that with us, it's very interesting.

So are you currently taking R5P (which I believe is riboflavin-5-Phosphate) 36 mg twice a day? Are you seeing a difference?

Looking forward to hearing from you,
      Nancy

  2. Hi Maddy

do you have an update here on riboflavin and whether this new one was more effective for you?
