Various Muscle relaxants?

Hi all - I would love any shared experiences on using muscle relaxants. My doctor is having me try them as preventatives. My problem is they seem to give me horrible heartburn after a week or so. I have tried Tizanidine, then Soma, then Flexeril (makes me feel a little too weird/tired/buzzy the next day), now Norflex. My doctor said it was unusual to give me heartburn but I would stop taking them, the heartburn would go away, and then I would start again and have crippling heartburn. They don't seem to be too bad in general but I still have a headache pretty much every day (I am also on Botox) and migraine 1-2 times a week.

  1. Hi 1bi480g,

Thank you for your question. My doctor added muscle relaxers to my medication protocol a number of years ago. I tried a number of them but have found tizanidine works the best for me, without heartburn.

I'm sorry you are having so much pain - that's exhausting. Have you been able to identify any of your triggers? If we can figure out what our triggers are and learn to avoid the ones we can, we may be able to reduce our attack frequency and severity. You may be interested in the following link that includes our articles on trigger identification and management; https://migraine.com/?s=triggers&submit=Go.

    I hope that helps!
