What sort of migraine is this?

Hi there,

My girlfriend recently (Tuesday morning four days ago) experienced symptoms of migraine.
She felt very dizzy, had a severe headache, and couldn't move without feeling very nautious.
She couldn't really eat, and was sick after most of the meals that she did eat.
Symptoms continued to the next day with the same severity, again, pretty much bed bound and unable to really move.

The day after, symptoms improved somewhat but still very sensitive, and then yesterday, syptoms started to improve further.
Today the symptoms appeared to have gotten allot better, but tonight the head ache and dizziness seems to have got a bit worse again,

We're a little worried because we presumed that it would've been gone by now, and so aren't really sure what to do.
Dizziness has returned and so has the headache, and the way she describes it is like an intense hang over.

I was wondering, if anyone had any advice or words of wisdom to impart?
We're new to the crippling world of migraines and are wondering weather this is all normal and what should be done.

Thanks very much,

  1. Hi 90NL,

Thank you for your post. I am so sorry to hear your girlfriend is suffering from such a debilitating migraine attack. It sounds like you and your girlfriend are unsure as to whether it could be migraine, or something else? Have you spoken with a doctor or migraine specialist? We always suggest checking one out when new symptoms arise or when they last longer than usual. It sounds like it would be super helpful to see one, as they will be able to diagnose and hopefully treat your girlfriend. 1. Hi Redpixie, Thank you for taking the time to post! I'm sorry you are struggling with multiple migraines a week - and that what used to work with you in the past is no longer helping. That is so frustrating! I hope you will find some the community here as well as information we have available helpful! For your own safety, we cannot give out medical advice (ie say what is normal or not) It's definitely a good idea to talk with a doctor regarding your symptoms. In the meantime you may want to check out a few articles if you haven't already on Botox: https://migraine.com/blog/10-tips-for-getting-the-most-from-botox/ & https://migraine.com/blog/botox-basics/. Response rates vary, but Botox has been approved by the FDA for chronic migraine prevention. I hope you find relief with the treatments! Also, you may be interested in checking out our "treatments" page for additional ideas to discuss with your medical provider: https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/. With regards to your last question, yes! there are a number of different types of migraines - here is an article to give you further information: https://migraine.com/migraine-types/.
