What works for me:

I have had migraines for about 15 years. I used to get 25 to 31 per month. I had to take preventative medicines: Depakote, Gabapentin and Topamax. They each worked fairly well for a year or two for each medicine. About 4 1/2 years ago, my Neurologist had me take 3 25mg Lamactil (Lamotrigine) tablets twice a day to prevent them. Now I only get 4 to 6 migraines per year! I have two minor Cardiac Arrythmias called Supraventricular Tachycardia and Premature Atrial Contractions, so I am not able to have any Caffeine or any Migraine abortive medicines like Imitrex. For years I have been taking 2 Aleve (Naproxen Sodium) at the start of a Migraine headache. If my face swells up huge at the start of a headache, with really bad pain, I also take 2 Tylenol 3 (with codeine), prescribed by my Neurologist. I also use two home remedies to make them stop as soon as possible. I drink a glass of Gatorade and rub "Origins" brand "On the Spot" peppermint lotion heavily underneath my chin, ears and all around my neck. These four things, plus resting in my darkened bedroom helps my Migraines go away in about 30 minutes. Other things that I do to prevent Migraines is to eat a high fiber diet. I eat two servings of Old Fashioned oatmeal every day, and I try not to eat anything with white flour or alot of sugar in it. If I don't stick to this diet, I always get a Migraine. Not everyone has the same results with medicines, but I hope that you can try these things out that have worked for me, and that they will work for you also, so that you can enjoy your life! Good luck! 😀
