Work place issues.

Hello all, this is my first post. I am hoping for some support. I am in conflict with my occupational health department. It is a long story many can probably relate too. I have asked and asked for accommodations in my workplace (appropriate computer set up), and have been denied these things. Finally, today, I mentioned that I had received legal advice from the human rights tribunal that my rights as an employee were being discriminated against. I am furious that it has come to this. I'm wondering how others cope with the anger nad frustration over things like this? I am angry, hurt, disappointed, and feel like I have let them take advantage of me.

  1. Hi Cynthia York,

Thank you for sharing your story with us and being part of the Migraine.com discussion forum - we're glad you're here!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Working when the conditions are just right is hard enough, but adding migraine to the mix can make things much worse. Do you think you'll be able to work out a satisfactory arrangement with your employer?

I've not had much experience with migraine and the workplace as I'm on SSDI. I do hope others will be along shortly to share their story with you. I can provide this article that has great tips in it; https://migraine.com/blog/ada-accommodations-migraine-triggers-making-the-workplace-work-for-you/. Other articles on ADA include; https://migraine.com/blog/my-road-to-workplace-accommodations/ and https://migraine.com/blog/community-ideas-managing-at-work/.

It's normal to feel angry, disappointed and hurt by this - I know I would. Hang in there.
Let me know if this information helps,

    Nancy

    1. The Americans with Disabilities act clearly states that you should have reasonable accommodations. Appropriate set up of your computer is certainly covered, and, easy to do. It''s a shame that your company won't fix the problem for you, I had a similar situation some years ago. You may have to fight to get what you need, but don't give up. Migraines are a disability and you have the right to be as comfortable in your job as you can be.
