Healthy Fall Smoothies
I was introduced to the concept of seasonal eating during my nutrition coaching certification. It makes a lot of sense to me, so I do my best to eat the foods that are harvested during each of the three seasons – spring, summer, and fall.
Fall smoothie ingredients
However, I struggle with making my breakfast smoothie seasonal during the fall. Summer smoothies are made with fresh, local fruit but for the fall I wanted to explore how to swap out some of those fruits for veggies.
Here are three veggies that I found great additions to smoothies:
- Cauliflower
- Beets
- Pumpkin
Substitutions for migraine food triggers
What I find especially interesting as a migraine sufferer, is that while pumpkin seeds are a trigger for me, the pure pumpkin puree isn't a trigger at all. If you wanted to avoid pumpkin though, you could also add in carrots, avocado and so much more, but the idea is that we’re reducing the fruit and adding more veggies for fall and winter.
