About to Try Emgality

Recently I was prescribed Emgality by my headache specialist. I share my experiences below in the video about getting the prescription: how it all came about and my feelings, including hope and some nervousness.

Emgality for migraine prevention

Emgality is the third of the new migraine drugs to come out in its class. It’s a CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor) antagonist. It is administered as a once a month injection. Below the video, I’ll share some more resources on the medication.

More information on CGRP blockers

I’ll definitely keep in touch on how it goes and would love to hear about other’s experiences either trying the medicine or trying to get insurance approval.

  • I found this video by Holly on how to use the self-injector very helpful.

Emgality has been a life-changer for me. I have suffered from migraines for over 20 years, including many years where I had at least 15 migraine days per month, for which I took Zomig. I’ve used Emgality for 3 months now, and it has not only eliminated my migraines entirely, it has freed me of the gnawing headachy-foggy head and fatigue-y feeling I was having nearly daily. I wake up with my head feeling clear as a bell. I’m totally astounded — I was hoping for some migraine relief, but I was entirely unprepared for it wiping away all of my headache issues.

As with anything migraine, I know that Emgality might not work for everyone, but I’m happy to report my experience and encourage others to try it. I have not experienced any side effects.

I’m fighting with my insurance company for coverage — they require me to try 3 preventives before allowing coverage, and I’ve tried only 1. (I don’t want to try anything else, because Emgality works!) Thankfully, I’m benefiting now from a year of free Emgality through their patient program.

Just wanted to offer this input.

Tried Aimovig for about 5 months. Unfortunately, it didn’t help at all. Botox didn’t either. Looks like I’ll be trying Ajovy in the new year.

It’s been 3 months and Emgality has changed my life. I still have to stick to migraine diet in the book “heal your headache”. With the diet and Emgality together I’m down to 3 or 4 migraine a month compared to 3 or 4 a week.

That’s great Davidgarrison! It’s been 3 months for me now too and I’ve had similar improvement. I hope you continue to do well! Also, thanks for sharing the book that you found helpful too.

@davidgarrison, It is so good to see someone that has had good results with Emgality. That is good news! Keep us posted if anything changes.
