A Survey Sheds Light on a Common Migraine Symptom - Migraine.com

Lisa Robin Benson- When it comes to migraine symptoms, depending on someone’s experience, many things can come to mind, such as flashing lights of aura, nausea and vomiting, and debilitating head pain. But for many, light sensitivity is one of the most disrupting symptoms because it keeps people confined to environments they can control. Last fall, TheraSpecs Company, a producer of tinted glasses designed to filter out the light which can worsen light sensitivity or trigger an attack, released a report on the subject, called “The Impact of Light Sensitivity.” I was able to have a conversation with Gregory Bullock, the Marketing Manager... #purpleproject- I recently saw a meme online that said: “Not to be dramatic, but one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was get out of bed this morning“. I know this is supposed to be sarcastic, but I want to take a moment to step on my soapbox and say that the past few months have been some of the most excruciating, patience-testing months I’ve ever been through. Support for getting through the small stuff The support you give to someone who is going through the smallest of things makes the world of a difference. For someone who... Read more

The Migraine Girl- A couple of years ago, I was a speaker/interviewee at the inaugural [online] Migraine World Summit—read what I wrote about it then by clicking this link. It was an immensely rewarding experience, and it made me realize how much I love being able to share my experiences with others, those who are chronically ill themselves or who are seeking to understand loved ones with chronic illness. It’s not because I like to hear myself talk (I think we can all agree that hearing the sound of your own voice is a somewhat off-putting experience for most people), and I certainly... Read more

Holly Baddour- Recently, in my fleeting well moments, I’ve been working on clearing the forest outside our house. My initial goal was to make some trails for our new dog to enjoy for daily walks but as I got into the task, I became obsessed. I decided I wanted to clear our land of the ivy that has overtaken it. As I dug into the ground to free tree after tree of this invasive plant I discovered endless similarities and symbolism connecting ivy and migraine. The process has been therapeutic. Why ivy? When contained, ivy can be a lovely plant. It’s a... Read more

Steven Workman- As a caregiver to someone with chronic pain, I often find myself in a position of having to locate my wife’s medications. Sometimes I have to help administer her injections and find things to help her be as comfortable as possible. Keeping the different medications straight She has quite a few different medications in her arsenal to choose from such as abortive medications, preventive medications, anti-inflammatory medications, etc. She has both oral and injectable medications. The catch is that you cannot use all of them at once. She takes daily preventives and saves the abortive meds for when things get... Read more

Amanda Workman- I spent my childhood growing up on a farm/ranch. If there was one thing you learned by a young age, it was not to get too attached to any animal aside from a dog or cat because there was no promise how long they would be on the farm. Some animals were sold for profit to keep the ranch running, while on the other hand some were named ‘deep freeze’ in order to provide protein to sustain my family. I know some people may find that crude but unless you do not eat meat, it is no different than buying... Read more

I got my first migraine when I was 11 years old. I was playing with friends and suddenly, there was a tiny spot in my vision that was missing. It was just…missing! Over the next hour, that spot grew larger and spread across both eyes. After a while, my vision was completely fuzzy and I couldn’t see anything. I was scared. Really scared. My mother took me home immediately, which is when the excruciating pain started to set in. By the end of the afternoon, I had lost my vision, vomited, and experienced pain unlike anything I had ever experienced.... Read more
