Pre-pregnancy

Hi guys! I'm not pregnant or looking to get pregnant soon, just wanted some information. I have struggled with severe chronic migraines for quite a while and finally found a drug that works! However, my neurologist said that I would have to be off of it for 5 months before trying to get pregnant. Does anyone know of pregnancy approved migraine drugs? I've been using Aimovig which is a CGRP.

  1. Hi there- thanks so much for this important question. I wish the news was better on this front, but unfortunately, there hasn't been a ton of research on migraine drugs related to safety during pregnancy. So most are deemed unsafe simply because they are unstudied. We do have a fair amount of content on this topic here: https://migraine.com/search?s=safe%20pregnancy so it's worth you taking a look to see what you can learn. Best to brainstorm with your neurologist to see what s/he would recommend. Best of luck to you! Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.

    1. One other note- just had another community member mention that her doctor has told her that Botox is safe for pregnancy. You might ask your neuro about this. Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.
