Supporting migraine research
Have you ever wanted to do something to directly impact headache science? Research is the foundation of good science. To discover more effective Migraine treatments, we must first understand what happens in the brain, why it happens, and then learn how to prevent or interrupt that process. It costs money to do good quality research, but there’s no profit incentive. Typically this type of research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and private foundations. In 2014 the NIH only allocated $20 million for migraine research. With over 36 million migraineurs in the U.S. alone, that’s a mere 52¢ per patient!
It’s not enough.
The best estimate is that Migraine costs us $13 billion a year in lost productivity. We’re losing billions each year, and investing pennies to solve the problem. If this were a corporation, we’d be bankrupt.
Well, here’s your chance to make a difference. No hot wings, no pie in the face, no buckets of ice water...just a small investment of your time and a little cash.
2015 AHMA Runnin’ for Research
AHMA Runnin’ for Research was started in 2014 in Morgantown, West Virginia. It’s a fundraising event that donates the registration fees to headache research. In the first year, $5800 was raised.
The race is growing!

Opportunities for everyone
With three options to choose from, anyone, with any level of fitness (or lack of fitness), can participate.
- 5K competitive race with individual age group and open categories
- 1 mile non-competitive walk at your own pace
- “Virtual Runner” – run 5K, walk 1 mile, or just join the participant “in spirit” from anywhere
Mark this event on your calendar and register soon. The entry fee is a modest $25.00 ($20 for walkers). If you would like to participate but can’t afford the entry fee, why not ask for a sponsorship?
Would you like to bring this event to your town?
The goal of Runnin’ for Research is to create branded events that can be held in cities all over the country. If you are interested in sponsoring a run in your hometown for 2016, just drop an email to runninforresearch@yahoo.com and request a guidebook.
