Preventative Meds.

Has anyone switched from the daily preventative med. Topamax to Depakote and had any luck with it? If so, are there any side effects?

  1. hi there. That is a great question. I was on Topamax for about 15 years. It was very helpful, but, I started having some side effects. My neurologist recommended Depakote. We tried it only for a short time, about 2 weeks. I decided to stop because I was not feeling too well on it. I had stomach pain, sleepiness and nausea. I wanted to share this with you: https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/depakote-and-depakote-er. That discusses the medication and potential side effects. Here are 2 articles about the writers experience with it: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/depakote-infusion.

I hope that if you try it, it will make a positive difference for you. (Tonya, team member).
