  1. Hey there, marshytiger. You've come to the right place -- topiramate is talked about very frequently here on the site! Each person is different in how they respond to any kind of medication, so the first thing you should do is check in with your doctor to see how long they expect it to take for you to see changes. Side effects are always possible -- we hear some people complain of feeling very tired or foggy on topiramate, that is pretty common. Here is an info page about the drug:

    1. Thank you. I have made an appointment with the Doctor to discuss.

      1. make sure that you drink LOTS of water while you’re on topamax. It can cause kidney stones if you get dehydrated. I can’t even begin to describe how painful they are. https://www.renalandurologynews.com/home/news/renal-stones-linked-to-migraine-drug/

        1. Thanks for sharing this. Dehydration itself can be a big trigger for kidney stones with or without medication -- all the more reason for everyone to keep up their fluids. And yes, they are truly excruciating. Take care!! -Melissa, migraine.com team

      2. I've been on it for years, 300mg per day, it has helped some, but has caused kidney stones and has caused some "dopamax" issues for me with spelling, I'm a nurse so I have to reread everything thing I do twice!

        1. Oh my- I hadn't heard of the kidney stones thing but am certainly familiar with dopamax! I've been on it for more years than I can remember (likely thanks to the Topamax...). Good to know about the kidney stones- another reason to stay hydrated! Can be so hard to do when struggling with nausea and vomiting. Thanks for sharing your earned wisdom with us! Warmly, Holly (migraine.com team).

        2. Dopomax -- ha. I love your little play on words! I'm sure it's not easy juggling your work responsibilities and migraine. Thanks for all you do! What's your specialty, if you don't mind me asking? -Melissa, migraine.com team
