"I am curious to know if I am alone or not in one of the more bizarre sensations that I believe is associated with my particular migraine condition. For lack of a better term I call it the ‘strobe effect’. First a bit of background. I have had migraines since I was a child. At first they manifest as abdominal migraines with lots of nausea and vomiting but not a headache that I recall. Later I experienced ‘Alice in Wonderland’ syndrome and then lots of migraines without aura. At their worst I had a migraine more than half the days of the month. Since menopause and adopting the ketogenic diet I have beaten migraines back to about one a week. But I still get the ‘strobe’ effect. This is a sensation of having all sensory input ‘gated’ such that it comes at me in pulses. If you ever were at a party where they were using a strobe light you will understand. The result is that I experience my world, not in a smooth way, but in jerks and bursts of input. It makes me clumsy and prone to walking into walls. I drop things, and have trouble hearing what is said because sound too comes in bursts, not smoothly. Often, although not always, I develop a migraine later. Can anyone relate to this? "
