Hemiplegic Migraine

I suffer from hemiplegic migraines about 5 yrs ago I was rushed into hospital with symptoms of a stroke, I lost all feeling down my left-hand side of my body and my face drooped down on the left-hand side I had CT scans. At first, they thought it was a TIA, same symptoms happened 2 more times rushed in hospital, etc. After the 3rd time, they told me it was hemiplegic migraines, I still get all symptoms I’ve described with horrendous headaches. I’ve had many medications without any good outcome. I’ve been having Botox injections for the last 12 months.i have then every 3 months they don’t take away the migraines but definitely help. Does anyone else suffer from these kinds of migraines?

hi I suffer from hemiplegic migraines. My 1st was 2006 I was in the hospital for a week ruling out all kid of things. 2008 i had tried everything available. Then like they came on, they did not occur any more. Thank you dear Jesus. Then Feb 2020 they started again. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something I had eaten. 8 hrs it was over as abruptly and violently as it came. That was just the beginning. Now I have at least 1 a week. lately they are running into 1 another. sure I have had all the Mri cat scan and blood work for anything. Even a stress test. I prefer this time to go between asa and excedrin for migraine. What about you? How are you?

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that you are suffering with hemiplegic migraines. I know how scary they can be. In 2016 I was rushed into hospital with similar symptoms of a stroke, TIA. My original diagnosis was Bell's Palsey as the right side of my face had dropped. I had countless MRI's and was finally diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines by my neurologist. I live in the UK and the usual treatment here is the antidepressant amitriptyline. As I wasn't comfortable with the idea of taking antidepressants, I looked at my diet and lifestyle. I went on a magnesium rich diet, avacados, salmon, bananas. I also gave up coffee. My whole lifestyle change took about six months and the results were amazing!! My last migraine was in September 2019. I used to have hemiplegia about 4 days a week. It's worth getting your hormone levels checked as well as I am also peri menopausal and have always suffered with pre menstual migraines. My life has completely turned around through diet and a healthy lifestyle. I have gone back to work as I couldn't work with my hemiplegia as it was so severe. I hope things change for you.
