Peter Lloyd

I am 79 years old and have suffered migraines for 20 years, the last 3 years on a daily basis. In Australia we can only get four Imigran tablets per prescription which gets expensive and I wondered if there is any way I can obtain Migraine medication in a less expensive way. I too tried Botox which worked for week then it came back. I am currently trying Folinic Acid. Any suggestions re medication.

    Peter,
I hope I can help you a little bit. I’m in the US, so I’m not sure if all of my suggestions are available to you. First, check with the drug manufacturer to see if they have any coupons available for Imigran. Most companies do offer coupons or patient assistance programs. This link gives you the contact information for Imigran: http://www.imigranrecovery.co.uk/contact.html

If you are interested, there are a few natural supplements that work for some, such as butterbur, feverfew, CoQ10 and Magnesium. Here’s more info on those supplements: http://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/natural-remedies/

Also, how many Migraines are you getting a month? Have you ever been on a preventative medication? If you haven’t, talk to your doctor about it. They tend to cost a lot less than triptans and may give you more migraine-free days.

    Best wishes,
    -Katie
