I had a stroke at age 39

My name is Lisa and I’m 41.I have had migraines for 12 years. No one in my family but me have migraines and I’m the only one to have had a stroke. Lucky me lol.I used to eat pain pills like they were candy but I was lucky enough to go to the Cleveland Clinic and they got me off of pain meds.

I have to watch what I eat, MSG,and chocolate is a big no no.The weather and little sleep affects it too. It’s hard sometimes with the pain but you just have to live life to the fullest one day at a time because some days are worse than others.

I take gabapentin, promethazine, and quetiapine if I get a migraine.the doctors don’t know what caused the stroke and I have trouble remembering and and carrying on a conversation.I have aphasia and sometimes can’t talk for 15-30 min.I don’t know when it is coming. But the doctors said I’m lucky to be alive because I could have been blind or paralyzed.

    Honey Jo,
Kudos to you for being able to get off the pain pills! That is a tough challenge for a lot of people. What are the ways you now deal with the Migraine pain?

And I’m so sorry you had a stroke! You were so young! How has having the stroke affected your Migraines? Have you been able to fully recover from that? Do your doctors think there is any link between the two?

    Thanks for sharing!
