Thyroid + migraines

My son, Joshua, has suffered with daily migraines since age 6…he was diagnosed with Graves’ disease at age 13. He has multiple nodules on his thyroid gland & this past week has been told that one of the nodules has a “growth” that is suspicious. He will have to have a biopsy performed.

If I were to go into detail about my sons’ life, it would take pages of type-written print. So, I will spare the details & leave you with a question: How many migraineurs also suffer with thyroid disease?

I’m so sorry to hear that your son has been struggling. Before reading your post, I never thought about there being a correlation between migraines and thyroid disease, but now I’m curious.

I’ve been dealing with chronic migraine for years and have also struggled with hyperthyroidism, so I wonder if there is a connection after all.

    Hang in there!

    Hi Kate,

I’m so sorry about your son, Josh. I can’t imagine having migraines at such a young age. How terrible. I had a similar experience about six months ago. I was exhausted, and committing constantly. I had all my hormonal glands tested, and thankfully everything turned out normal. I wish you and Josh the absolute best!

    Thanks,

Lastly, you mention your son experiencing daily migraines. Not knowing what medications your son may be taking, but are you familiar with medication overuse headache? Also called MOH, this can be a big problem. Here is more information about MOH:
