Weather Migraines

I have been having migraines since 2005. I learned of this when I had to go to the ER because I thought I was having a stroke. They took me in right away. They had told me that I had what they call a "complicated migraine" which mimicked the signs of a stroke.

Since then, I have had migraines. I have changed my diet to a certain degree of what not too eat and drink. I seem to have weather migraines when the weather approaches when we are having a bad storm. Due to the pressure dropping. Or when it changes during the seasons. I just had a migraine Monday, afternoon and it was finally over when the rain stopped. I have not felt that bad in a very long time.

Does any one have headaches when the weather changes?

Yes, I too get migraines before a storm, and during season changes mid-may through june and mid-september through mid-october. My migraines ALSO started right after I was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia. Verapamil, a calcium channel blocker, prevents the palpitations and episodes. I also have another minor cardiac arrythmia called premature atrial contractions. Digoxin prevents that and works well. Because of these conditions, there isn't a single migraine abortive medicine safe enough to take. If you are taking them, that could be causing your SVT symptoms. I take lamactil twice a day to prevent near daily migraines. Good luck!!

 I have had tachycardia attacks for over 30 years but only a few every year. I have been taking Diltiazem for some time & now I have a weak heart. I also had breast cancer & have to take pills for 5 years. I figured that the cancer pill was causing some of my bad headaches & going to ask the cancer dr. if it can be changed as I have another year to go. The cancer drug has already caused bone loss & I have to take calcium for that. It appears that one problem/pill can cause more problems.

Yes, my migraines are definitely weather related. When I see that big L on the weather map, I tell my husband it means Liz will get headache! Does anyone use heating pad for relief? That and Fiorocet are the only things that help but I'm worried that I may be causing damage from overuse of heating pad.

woke up at 3a.m.Sunday morning during Hurricane Irene with a migraine. It continued all day Sunday until I knocked myself out with Tylenol PM. I have found that taking Allegra keeps mine away. Guess I better start taking it again.

 Julie, same happened to me, but it takes imitrex to knock mine out. This is the first one I've had since I started taking herbal supplement, Feverfew. That may be worth a try. I'm going to try allegra next.

Yes the weather effects my migraines. Have had migraines for over 42 yrs. My migrine starts 2-3 days before the rain starts then go away as the rain arrives.. Migrains have escalated over the years from 34- a month to 3-4 a week. take care of your self.

I've learned to watch the allergen counts and follow the weather daily. I've found that when a change in weather is coming I need to take Benedryl before bed and Allegra during the day; it seems to minimize the migraine. I still get a horrible headache but I'm still able function, unlike with a migraine. Best of luck to you and hopefully you'll figure out what works best for you!

Try Medclim.com--they send emails when weather conditions are likely to cause a migraine. I am more cautious when I get an email, and will take preventative medication at the first hint of a migraine. It doesn't prevent every weather related migraine, but it has helped me. Best of luck!

Weather is my biggest trigger. I could be a meteorologist. I will start a migraine in the middle of a beautiful day when I have done the things right to avoid them and there will be a storm of some sort later on. I am currently sitting with day two because of the weather. I think some days it would be great to live in the desert but the light can cause them too so would it really help....probably not and I love snow. I don't even get relief when it rains. The pressure system has to go away.

Yes - I experience weather migraines. I tell my family that I am now a meteriologist and can predict when the weather is going to change or when it is going to rain. Living in Missouri - the weather changes so often - I experience this trigger all the time. Good luck to all of us!

I get migraines on bright sunny days when the temperature is above 84 degrees or if I get over heated. I get a throbbing one sided headache that leaves me incapacitated.

 Octobersky Sky wow that might be the most useless insulting advuce I have ever heard. Please do a little more research about what causes migraines. As someone who suffers a migraine every single day, seeing a reply like this is not only the equivalent of hearing someone tell us "its all in your head", but ignorance like this is what perpetuates the cycle of people who think a migraine is some sort of imaginary ailment.

I can tell the difference between my weather migraines and my regular migraines by the way the pressure feels in my head. Living in sw Kansas our barometric pressures change often and quickly so I may be fine one minute, and feel like my head is going to explode the next. We spent a week in Colorado springs this summer and not once did have get a headache...was so nice.

The weather here in Florida changes a lot. I never had so many & bad migraines living in Mich. Every time the barometric pressure goes down I get a bad headache. I have tried a lot of types of treatment & now using the earplugs MigraineX to see if it helps. Any one else trying MigraineX?
