Been in a CGRP study for the past 5 years

I have been in a study for CGRP (Amgen sponsored) at the Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia under Dr. Silberstein. For the past 4 years I have been receiving the drug. I can't say enough, it has changed my life. I was getting at least 1 migraine/week. I now get less than 1 /month. It's not fool proof, but the frequency has significantly dropped and there have been no side effects for me. I would encourage anyone with chronic migraines to see you headache specialist about this ground-breaking drug.

  1. Hi goochiegrl,

I'm so happy to hear this! Good for you!

I bet it's great to feel good again!

    1. Hi there,
I just started Aimovig 3 months ago, I’m taking 70 mg injections 1 x month. So far, I have not seen much improvement . I’m encouraged to hear of your good outcomes... what dosage do you take? And how frequently?
Any info about your experience would be much appreciated

      Thank you!

      1. Hi migraineur206,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Some people are seeing improvement after month three. Don't lose hope!

      2. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I took my 2nd dose, of Aimovig last week. So far I think I might be having less sever Migraines since starting, but I am not sure. I am also on Valtrex because my migraines became worse after I had shingles on my right eye, around my eye , nose and on the front left of my head.
I have migraines every day and they usually are worse in the evening.

I am so tired that I am sleeping about 12+ hours a day. I am also noticing very itchy skin and ears are ringing. The ear ringing started well before using the Aimovig. Wonder if this is from the Aimovig or the Valtrx.

How soon will I see results of Aimovig?
        Thanks!

    2. Hi dizzyblonde,

That's a tough decision, for sure. Maybe think of it in these terms; how many days a month are you pain free/no migraine/headache days? I think we tend to get stuck on how many PAIN days we have, but it's important to note how many PAIN FREE days we have too. Maybe that will help?

Please let me know how you make out at your appointment.

Wishing you a low pain day,
      Nancy
