Migraine disease can be very isolating, and sometimes it's hard to describe your experience. Well, creative writing can help! In this series, I'll share some inspiration, and give a new writing prompt in each video.

First, thank you for these prompts, Lisa! Just discovered this community, and as someone who turns to writing for relief from the everyday, I never really wrote to describe my dealings with migraine attacks—so thank you for this opportunity! Here is my contribution: All aboard! The whistle echoes through another restless evening, signaling its arrival. It’s intimidating, loud, undeniable. Carrying dozens of passengers all at once - each inside their own world, having their own experiences so very different from your own. As it charges along the tracks, there are brief moments of respite to be had, small treasures seen through the foggy windows. Someone holding a bouquet of sunflowers from the market. A blanket of snow clinging gently to a barren tree. Another whistle and we rush into a tunnel—blanket of darkness, flashing lights, holding your breath and looking for the light at the end. Another ride is finally over for now, but the schedule is full and the next train arrives tomorrow. Take it easy.

My migraine vehicle is an amusement ride with a sadistic operator at the controls. An amusemment ride gone wrong. Gone too long. Gone off the rails. I've been the unfortunate rider stuck on the broken rollercoaster. How do I climb down off this thing?!? The motion sick rider who seriously regrets getting on the tilt-a-whirl. Why did I think that might be fun?!? How did I not know that would lead to vomiting? I've been lost in the mirror maze, not sure how to get back to normalcy. Afraid of running into the walls. Walking around and around in circles. Please send someone in to rescue me! I've ridden the caroussel hoping to grab the golden ring as I circle round and round and up and down, missing it...or finding it's just a ring, not the golden ticket to happiness. The operator on the bumper cars gave everyone else the cars that work right. Mine is stuck against the rail. Defenseless, I seem to get hit by all the others as they go by. Please let me off! So many people enjoy the amusement park. I used to. I loved the sights and the sounds and the people and the food. I loved the spinning and the dropping and the excitement. But that sadistic ride operator has ruined alot of that for me. Now I'm mostly a watcher, afraid to try some of the things I used to love.
