Headache Longer Than 72 Hours

In fact, my headache is on day 5 with only slight relief each day (or maybe I'm just getting used to it?). It comes and goes in waves, and is affected by standing/sitting up/walking/etc. It feels very sinus-like, almost as if the headache is located smack dab in the middle of my skull, behind my forehead. I've been lucky that Excedrin, water, sometimes coffee, and rest have always done the trick within 2-3 days - BUT, this time nothing feels like it's helping and I'm going a bit crazy... Any suggestions to curb the headache?

  1. Hi, jnatov. Sorry to hear you've been having such a tough week of headaches! It can be so frustrating, especially when the cause is unknown. I'm assuming the type of pain you're experiencing is a little different from what is "normal" for you. Maybe you're fighting a cold, especially since it feels sinus-like to you. We can't give medical advice for your own safety, but have you tried using warm or cold compresses? Is it better in a dark room or in a certain position? What about applying some pressure or massaging the areas that feel sore?

Maybe someone else will chime in with other tips. I hope you're feeling better soon! Be sure to check in with your doctor if it feels like the worst headache you've ever had or if you have any other symptoms that worry you. Please keep us posted! -Melissa, migraine.com team
