Has anyone here started taking the newly approved Aimovig?

It is a monthly injection and so far very little is known about any potential adverse reactions. I'm not seeing any discussions about Aimovig (as yet, in this community) and that worries me a little bit.

  1. Hi Blythe,

Thank you for your question. I haven't taken Aimovig, but do know a number of people who are using it. You can find more information on this medication here; https://migraine.com/?s=Aimovig. We also have information on this CGRP antibody in this link:https://migraine.com/living-migraine/aimovig-cost/.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you'll be trying this and how you make out.

    Nancy

    1. Hi Blythe,

I started taking it 3 weeks ago and had one migraine the first week and then none. I have had chronic migraines for 30 years. The only side effect was an achy arm for a couple of hours, but I'll take that!

I'm getting used to being completely functional, something I never even considered.....I mean, it's no problem, but as an adult it's new to me, to not be in bed in agony at some point or points in the week.

I'm very happy and I have to admit I'm scared that it won't last, but so far it's changed my life. I hope it does the same for you.

      1. @rikntracy, that is remarkable! I'm so happy for you. To hear that you have had a chronic migraine brain for 30y and you have responded so well to the initial injection is blowing my mind. I have so many questions about this new drug.

I'm nervous about taking it because I have a latex allergy. And I'm wondering if there's any contraindication for taking Aimovig with other drugs, like Benedryl or Tylenol. Plus a lot of questions about the long range effects of this medication (that have not been answered).

But I'm just taking the next indicated step at this point. Waiting for the pharmacy call to let me know the Aimovig is ready to be picked up... I'm so worn down by migraine pain. It would be a miracle to experience a string of days (or weeks) migraine free consecutively!

I will be eagerly watching for your progress reports @rikntracy!

        1. Thanks! Please let me know how you do 😀.

      2. Hi Nancy, for some reason I am only just seeing your reply. Thank you for the links!
