Does anyone take Topamax/Topiramate for migraine?

I used to take this medicine for epilepsy years ago.it didn't work for me for seizures but then i didn't notices on migraine since it was not affecting me at that time. Now neurologist suggested take this medicine again for migraine. Beside that my daughter 15years old is having head aches and he prescribed same drug for her.

  1. Hi jenhd68,

Thank you for your question. I took topiramate a number of years ago with limited success. However, there are MANY people who do very well on this medication.

You may want to look at this topiramate link for more information until other members come along and share their experiences with you; https://migraine.com/?s=topamax.

    I hope that helps!

    1. I just started Topamax this week after being on amatriptyline and migraine frequency increasing and a 10 day migraine. I understand it takes at least a month to see benefits but I am struggling with the side effects for now.

      1. Hi, I am now on 200mg of Topiramate/day. The main symptom I really struggled with was constant nausea to the point of weight loss. I was a bit overweight so not a real issue but never the less the nausea became almost unbearable but I stuck with it and after about 3 months I seemed to adjust. I also had tingling, pins and needles which have now also mostly subsided. I'd encourage you to stick with it for 3 months to see if you get any migraine benefits. I still get migraines but also have epilepsy in the family and my neurologist suggests I stay on it for now. Best of luck, keep me posted if you like. I know how you feel.

        1. I tried, but experienced eye pain/fullness and vision loss with just one dose. I tried twice more with the same eye problems. I will not try again.
