Aura without headache?

Hi Guys,

Ive been suffering migraines with aura for the last 20 years. Im 38.

Usually the first thing i notice is the peripheral vision in my left eye (To the bottom left) is sort of out of focus. The feeling in my eye is as though theres something in my eyelash and my eye is trying to focus. Usually a few minutes later i see the dreaded aura. The starry squiggly line. If i catch it early and get sugar into my system, i'll get no pain after the aura. If i dont... Im in trouble.

Anyway, for the last 2 days ive had the first stage of my aura non stop. This has never happened before. Im in no pain, just the out of focus feeling in my left eye, exactly how i would before i see the aura. But no squiggly line.

Any ideas as to what this may be?

  1. Hi LukeR,

Thanks for your question. I hope by now you are feeling better.

The thing is when we have new and/or different symptoms it's always a good idea to discuss them with the doctor so he can rule out anything more serious. If you haven't contacted him yet, I would encourage you to do so.

Having said that, our migraine patterns can change over time to include having a migraine attack without head pain, called acephalgic or silent migraine. We have more information on that here; https://migraine.com/migraine-types/silent-migraine/.

Please let me know what the doctor says,
    Nancy

    1. Thanks Nancy,

I actually went to the optometrist the other day to get my eyes checked. I havent had the need for glasses until i noticed over the last couple of years that my sight is getting worse. Turns out i have Astigmatism in my left eye... It could be the cause of my symptom but im not convinced. Its the exact symptom i have just before a migraine. I'll try out my new glasses and see what happens. If it doesnt solve my problem, i'll see my GP. My GP can be a pain at times. She usually just says "See how you go for a while".

      1. Hi LukeR.

Good to hear you had your eyes examined and hopefully your new glasses will help. If not, don't hesitate to get to your doctor. Or is it time to find a doctor who has a better understanding of migraine disease?

        Best of luck,
        Nancy

        1. Got my glasses today. So far so good. Cant really notice the sensation. I'll keep you posted.
