Botox Questions

Hi Christy,

I'm sorry we didn't get back to you before your injections - how did they go? Were they more or less painful then you expected?

I've not had Botox, but know many who have been helped immensely by it.

As with any other migraine preventive medication, we still need to manage our triggers and lifestyle choices to avoid attacks. Botox is a preventive medication, not a "cure."

I'm sorry I did not see your questions prior to you getting your injections. I went through over a year with the botox treatments. Sometimes they were painful. Sometimes they were just annoying. How did you do? Have they helped you? For me, they did not help me unfortunately. I was sick the whole day from the injections and then found they gave me only a slight relief for a couple of weeks before they migraines came back with a vengeance. It always seemed like an eternity before the next set of injections, at least for me. And it was a rinse/repeat type of story for me. I hope yours went well and that you were greatly helped with the injections. Please let us know how you did with the treatment! I am curious to see if they helped you. 😀

I am just seeing this now, but I thought I would reply so others with the same question may see the answers I have heard from others (and experienced myself):

Question 1)
In terms of pain, is it comparable to trigger points or occipital nerve blocks?

I personally haven't had nerve block injections, but I've heard from those who've had both nerve blocks and botox, that Botox is less painful. Personally I have found with Botox injections that most of the injections are like small pin pricks, and maybe 2-3 are more painful if they're in a more tender area, but that the pain is short lived (a few seconds at most). I am sore for the rest of the day, and fine the next day.

Question 2)
Will I have any swelling, bruising, or God Forbid, a headache from it?

I have had minor bruising occasionally, but not all over. For example, I may be bruised or slightly (not visibly) swollen in a spot or two. Once in awhile I get a migraine, but that could have likely occurred anyway!

Side effects can vary from person to person, and it is always good to talk to your doctor about possible side effects, especially ones that you are most worried about.
