Diet Questions

Hey everyone! I recently underwent a colonoscopy/endoscopy and had to do a low residue diet beforehand. I was very limited on what I could eat. No vegetables, only fruit juice, white bread, white rice, baked potatoes, butter, salt, eggs, chicken, beef and pork. In this span of 5 days I only had 1 migraine that I treated without my big medications and that was only moderate pain (for reference I am a chronic migraine sufferer and usually have 4 or more headaches a week). My question is this. I have done so many different diets and had some success on a low histamine diet but have fallen away from it some. I’ve read that a lot of people who have trouble with histamine also have trouble with oxolates. Has anyone tried or had success with this? The diet I was on was not healthy and they said I could only be on it for 5 days so doing that long term wouldn’t work. Just curious what you all have found! Thanks!

  1. Hi , thanks for reaching out! How wonderful that you only had one migraine in the span of five days while on the low residue diet. I hope that some of our community members who've found dietary changes helpful in managing migraine can chime in and share with you here. In the meantime, we do have an article written by a member about her experience with dietary histamine, https://migraine.com/blog/the-migraine-food-trigger-youve-probably-never-heard-of. Another member shared some of their experience/story here as well, https://migraine.com/stories/histamine-intolerance-migraines. It certainly could be worth a conversation with your doctor and/or a nutritionist to decide whether a low histamine diet might be an option for you. Please, if you're comfortable, keep us posted. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
