Eliminate migraine with diet and exercise - for real?

Greetings - with all the advice I get, I'm wondering if anyone has eliminated their migraines strictly through only a diet and exercise program. I have severe photophobia (daughter says "oh, so you are scared of light then, that' what it means" and...she is a physician, it hurt...like she was mocking me, and I would think she of all in my family would be educated enough to know what it means). Light sensitivity makes me very nauseous, and prolonged visual stimulation leads to aura. I have motion sickness, and sometimes they come on for no reason. I have tried, and diet and exercise has not been a complete cure-all. I know the drill - hydration, clean food, no spice, etc. But to totally wipe out migraines with a diet and exercise routine...anybody have success?

  1. Hi , I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter's comment was so hurtful. As you say, you'd think that being a doctor she would be more educated about photophobia. Please know this community understands and is here for you.

I hope some community members can share their experiences with managing migraine with diet and exercise can share with you here. Diet can be a bit of tricky one, because everyone is so different and foods that are triggers for some people might not be triggers for others. That being said, I do know we have some community members who have found dietary changes helpful. In fact, I wanted to share one of our community members who shared her personal story about migraine diet here, https://migraine.com/stories/diet. Another member shared her experience with an elimination diet that you might be interested in as well, https://migraine.com/stories/migraine-elimination-diet-point-to-coffee-and-wine. Finally, I just wanted to share this information on elimination diets, https://migraine.com/blog/whats-elimination-diet-manage-one. Hopefully some of this information is helpful.

If you're comfortable, please keep us posted. Especially if you end up trying an elimination diet (or other diet) to help manage your migraine attacks. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
