Chronic Daily Migraines

I suffer with chronic daily migraines. Never having what my Neurologist calls a “crystal clear day” the daily pain level is usually 3 to 4 which I cope withand at its worst 8 to 10 which I get several times a year lasting a few days. I am on a aJovy injections taking three every quarter and these have been a great help. I also take 120 mg of Topamax Morning and night and vimovo if needed. I got my Covid jab 10 days ago and whether it’s a coincidence or not it may triggered a severe attack and I’ve been out of action the last 10 days as I’m under the care of a Neurologist and I’m now on awaiting list for infusions there seems to be nothing that can be done for me during this time and I’m wondering if anyone has any advice for me I’m in such awfuk pain. I’m even considering the recent social media gadget that people are putting in their ears for migraines!! . My Migraine manifest itself on the left hand side with pain on my neck the back of my head and on the left-hand side of my face. Thanks in advance.

  1. Hi there- thank you so much for sharing some of your migraine journey with us. I'm so sorry you are in the midst of an intractable attack, perhaps triggered by your recent vaccine. It does sound like you are in capable hands with your neurologist (do you feel good about that relationship?). Ajovy is a frequently used preventative, as is Topamax. I'm not sure which infusions you are referencing. But, there are some common strategies to stop an intractable migraine which include a steroid dose pack (for those who can tolerate steroids), a series of nerve blocks, or an injection of Toradol (which some doctors can administer in office - it's otherwise available in the ER but can also be prescribed at home for those comfortable with self-administering an injection (if your doctor is willing to prescribe it). As far as other overall approaches to managing migraine, there are a number of preventative and rescue medications, but I'm not certain you were asking for those. It sounds like you are perhaps overall happy with your current treatment regimen - it's just that you've gotten tripped up into a really tough attack that needs stopping. Is that correct?
I'm with you in never experiencing a crystal clear day- I've been living with chronic migraine for decades and am in some level of pain 24 hours a day- it's just a matter of severity. We are absolutely here for you to provide support and information anytime- and are so glad you are with us. We look forward to hearing back from you and send our compassion and hopes this attack will ease for you soon. Warmly - Holly (team member)

    1. Thanks for your reply Holly, the infusions are auto immune and apparently new (I’m in Ireland) and will be available sometime next year. It requires a few hours in hospital and I’m hoping they will work. I didn’t know about Toradol and will ask my GP if it’s available. This throbbing attack has knocked the stuffing out me.

      1. Are these also known as IVIG? We have very little information about this type of therapy on our site so I'm interested. I wish you such a good outcome in your pursuit of relief. There's also something called Vyepti that is done by infusion- does that sound familiar? It's more of a preventative.
I'm sure you are exhausted, utterly- by this intractable attack. Please know we are sending you such love, tenderness, and comfort. Warmly - Holly (team member)

      2. Hi ... just wanted to check in on you and see if you were able to find out anything about the Toradol, or any kind of emergency care to help you break this cycle. How are you holding up? We're here for you. Sending a gentle hug! -Melissa, team member

    2. Hi Melissa, thanks so much for checking in with me. It’s been a really rough time I won’t lie and the last few days spent mostly in bed. I had a real low point last night and I emailed my Neurologist and my husband who has been such a support and it’s not used to seeing me so low said he would ring their office this morning to see if they received the email. The receptionist initially said they were booked up until March but he pressed upon her how serious this was. Shecwas very good and said she would get back to us tomorrow but we received an email this afternoon saying they would fit me in for an emergency appointment on Thursday. I’m hoping he can give me through this difficult period and apparently I’m on the list soon (whatever that means!) for,the IV’s which are Vyepri I’ll be pressing upon him how bad this attack has been and hoping he can bump me up on the list. As you know when you were feeling like this, it just impinges completely on your life they’re under control. I’m up and about and very busy with Life two sons abroad and coming home for Christmas with their lovely wives and usually at this time, I’m busy preparing the house shopping for Christmas, et cetera, and I’ve just lost three weeks ! I really appreciate you checking in you have no idea what that means to me x

      1. So sorry to hear that your migraines have been brutal lately, . From your post, it sounds like you and your husband make a great team. Kudos for advocating for yourself and your needs. Wishing you the absolute best at your emergency appointment.

        Warmly, - Cody (Team Member)
