Coping Methods

In this thread feel free to share your methods for coping or what you find helps when you are under a migraine attack.

I find hot baths and watching comedy helps best. Comedy because usually laughter (especially extreme laughter) can numb the pain very well, at least for me.

What about you guys?

  1. Wanted to reply to this thread talking about a classic method. Believe it or not, ice packs are actually a very effective coping method for the short term when it comes to intense migraines. They won't prevent them but if you need immediate relief I would say that 95% of the time they work very well.

    1. ice packs can sure be a lifesaver! My husband uses them all the time for his attacks as well as for back pain from his surgery. However, they are one of those things that not everyone will benefit from. Some suffer from different sensitivities like hot and cold or just have symptoms like allodynia where any contact can be very uncomfortable. I prefer the heat of a nice hot shower to calm my attacks and my husband does not although he will use a heating pad at times but that is rare. Thanks for reminding us of that old stand-by help for managing a migraine attack! Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team

  2. This works very well for me watching comedy and using ice packs but i can't bring myself to get out of bed and have a hot bath

    1. Yeah I think for most people the hot bath is very hit or miss and isn't nearly as effective as the ice pack method. In fact I'd do an ice pack over a hot bath any day of the week.
