COVID vaccine and migraines

After receiving my second shot, my migraines increased despite getting Botox. The Botox had been working really well. I had a somewhat mild case of covid this January and since have been getting zaps in my temples. The zaps have been increasing as it gets closer to the time for a round of Botox.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I personally don't really want a booster because of this. I did have someone say it would be better to have migraines than die from COVID. I have chronic migraines and was have daily vertigo ones for over a month before Botox.

  1. We've heard similar things from other members as well, you're not alone in seeing an uptick in migraine frequency after getting vaccinated. I am sorry you are dealing with this. I'm going to share a few links I think may be useful; https://migraine.com/clinical/covid-19-vaccines

I've been getting Botox since 2016 and have noticed a slight decrease in efficacy. It has dropped my attacks from 26-28 a month to about half. I still deal with other head pain issues, but in general I am pleased with it. My doctor has recommended I be more mindful of my triggers (the ones I'm able to avoid) a few weeks before I'm due for my next round of injections. I've heard from people who are able to get Botox at the 10 week mark, rather than at 12 weeks. Maybe something to discuss with your doctor?
I hope you are doing OK today and look forward to hearing from you, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Leader/Moderator Migraine.com Team
