Does anyone get olfactory hallucinations?
Hello all!
Does anyone else get olfactory hallucinations? Right before and right after I get a migraine I can smell the strongest odor of burning cigarettes. There are no cigarette smokers around. Each "spell" will last from a few seconds to 5 minutes or so before it fades. Of course it made me totally doubt my sanity so I looked it up and it turns out it's a real thing and it's called Phantosmia. And one of the common groups of people to have this are migraineurs. The info went on to say that some folks smell other things, but the majority smell burning cigarettes. So, does anyone else have this experience or am I the only one in the Loony Bin here 😉

Yes, I keep smelling vinegar or alcohol during my auras and medical literature does mention olfactory hallucinations.
I'm glad I'm not alone. So, vinegar for you? The article I read said a small portion of the people that get these will smell a pleasant odor, like bread or cookies baking. Why can't we be among those folks?!
I guess we're not that lucky lol. I would definitely find it more amusing if it were a pleasant smell. 😀
I guess I'm one of the "lucky" ones. I usually smell baked brownies. I guess if I'm going to have a phantom smell, I'm glad it's brownies.
